After almost 4 years as parish priest in Bluebell, Fr Tomasz heads off to take up a new appointment as parish priest in Vancouver, Canada. Parishioners, young and old, together with members of the Polish community attended a concelebrated mass in Bluebell parish at 11 am mass yesterday, 27 July 2014. Celebrating the farewell mass with Fr Tomasz, were Fr Ray Warren, Fr Dermot Mills and Fr Willie Fitzpatrick. Also celebrating mass was Fr Tony Clancy (who along with Fr Peter Clucas will replace Fr Tomasz).
Various flags representing the Oblates, Ireland, Poland, Canada were ceremoniously placed near the alter. The Bluebell parish choir sang throughout under Sr Anne Ryan’s direction.
Tribute was paid by both Fr Ray, Brother Michael, Sr Anne and Margaret Alford to Tomasz’s time in Bluebell, in particular his availability, warmth, spirituality and sense of humour.
After communion, the children (under the direction of Anny Marie Sissons), suitably clad in Polish traditional clothes performed an ethnic polish dance – much to Fr Tomasz’s surprise.
This was impressively matched later by local Irish dancers in the Coral.
A vast array of food prepared and cooked by parishioners (dishes of Irish, Polish and Iraqian origin together with a variety of sandwiches and cheeses) ensured a great farewell party.
Congratulations to the Parish Liturgy Team (Sr Anne, Brother Michael, Margaret Alford, Bernard Corcoran, Ann Keogh) and others too numerous to mention for all their work in planning such a successful emotive farewell tribute mass for Fr Tomasz.
Very best of luck Fr Tomasz and keep in touch.
