First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation
The ‘Do this in Memory of Me’ program of preparation for First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Reconciliation involves the home, school and parish. While acknowledging that parents are the primary religious educators of their children the ‘Do this in Memory of Me’ programme is this three-fold partnership that enables children to learn, deepen and enrich their faith and grow in a love for the Eucharist.
Once a month at the 11 a.m. Family Mass, the boys and girls from Our Lady of the Wayside and St. Cillian’s Primary Schools gather with their families and our Our Lady of the Wayside Parish Church, Bluebell. In preparation for this monthly celebration the children follow a specially designed programme in school, home and church. Prior to the monthly Mass our ‘tuned in’ parent leadership team come together with the celebrant and coordinator to plan for the Mass. There is always a real air of expectation as our young parishioners actively participate in the celebration of this Eucharist. Journeying with them also are parishioners who, at the beginning of their preparation promised to accompany them through prayer.
